01
The brief
A museum of surrealist art had outgrown its paper map. Visitors got lost in its labyrinth of galleries, the audio guide sat unused, and the museum wanted a digital companion that would respect the art rather than compete with it. It had to work just as well for first-time tourists, school groups and visitors with low vision.

02
The approach
I shadowed visitors for two weeks and learned that people did not want the fastest route. They wanted to feel invited to drift. The guide became a slow companion: a hand-drawn map that reveals rooms as you walk, stories that unfold only when you pause in front of a work, and a calm mode that dims the screen so eyes stay on the walls. Audio, large text and high-contrast modes were designed alongside the main experience, never bolted on at the end.

03
The outcome
The guide launched with the museum's new wing and is now used by most weekend visitors. Visits grew longer, and the museum retired its printed maps entirely.
